An original Steyr G88 Commission Rifle with original cleaning rod and sling swivels. These iconic rifles were issued to Imperial German Forces during WW1 (see a Collector’s Guide To The German Gew 88 Commission Rifle by Paul Scarlata). The rifle is in nice condition with good original undamaged woodwork. The stock has a steel butt plate. It has a ladder rear sight and block & blade fore sight. It is rare to find these weapons in their original condition without conversion to charger loading. This example has not been converted. The receiver is stamped with "Gew 88" and "OEWG (Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft 'Austrian Arms-Manufacturing Company’) Steyr " together with 1894 date and proof marks. The muzzle ring is stamped with Regiment marks "G.F.R.11.14" To The Garde Fusilier Reserve Regiment, 11th Kompagnie, Weapon Number 14. Deactivated to UK specification in 2007 the rifle cocks and dry fires. The weapon is complete with an original G88 rifle bayonet. The bayonet has a 9 ¾” single edged blade with fuller. The clean blade is marked at the ricasso with the combined 'OEWG' Steyr mark. It's steel cross guard is stamped '3514'. Its slab wood grips are undamaged and the pommel's steel push button release catch functions perfectly. The bayonet has its original steel scabbard with frog bar. The scabbard has no dents. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. Sn 10923:17
