This is a .177 BSA Meteor Mk1 - SERIAL NUMBER: N3583 (LOW SERIAL)
.
It is a break barrel spring powered rifle made in Birmingham, UK, 1959 to1962 by The Birmingham Small Arms Company and the first BSA air rifle engineered to fit a telescopic sight.
Marketed as an introductory rifle for plinking, hunting and firearm training as a replacement for the BSA Cadet.
.
The spring and piston are compressed by breaking the barrel through 125° before loading a pellet directly into the breach.
The barrel is then returned into place and secured with a detent lock.
The single-stage trigger is adjustable for pressure.
No rear sight.
The cylinder has two shallow short pairs of grooves to accept a telescopic sight.
The top of the barrel is stamped ‘BSA GUNS LTD ENGLAND’ '.177 cal'
and the air chamber is stamped ‘BSA METEOR’ to the fore of the scope grooves.
.
The rifle is in good used condition for its age.
The metalwork seems to have been painted black so would need rebluing if restoring.
The stock is nicely aged showing signs of use, nice patina.
PLEASE NOTE *there are what seems to be 1 longer and 1 shorter either starting cracks or scratches On the LEFT SIDE just behind the trigger. SEE PHOTOS.
