This is an M1871 bayonet BY P.D. UNESCHLO SOLINGEN. It is marked to the blade with the name of P.D. Uneschlo of Solingen who were known as good quality manufacturers of bayonets, examples are rare. The blade comes with staining consistent with age and is marked to the spine crown over IV/74 (1874). The cross guard is steel with a muzzle ring, and the hilt is brass but with provision for attachment to a rifle. The scabbard is brass mounted black leather with no bends or creases to the leather *stitching loose to the rear- chape has some movement but is intact. The locket is marked; R.A.T.11.24. and the frog bar is marked; 12.R.1.236. A nice example of an M1871 bayonet. See Watts & White page 116 No 245 for reference. The price includes UK delivery. 20071.
