Description

Early, Quality, c.1800's English Robert Wogdon of London 20 Bore Single Barrel Muzzle Loading Percussion (Converted From Flintlock) Sporting Shotgun. Sn - 19662

Robert Wogdon made many and varied firearms – pocket and livery pistols, double-barrelled pistols, sporting guns and rifles, carbines and blunderbusses – but he was most renowned for his duelling pistols. Robert Wogdon of Wogdon & Barton and John Barton, London Gunmakers worked from 1764 to 1819. This is a quality silver mounted 20 bore percussion shotgun which was converted to percussion sometime in the mid1800s with a 38 inch barrel and an overall length of 54 inches. The wooden stock has a large engraved silver butt plate, ornate silver hallmarked trigger guard, ramrod ferrule and barrel retaining wedge and ring. The sockplate screws are inlaid with silver wire work. The stock has a chequered wrist and has an old contemporary and stable repair to it. The bore has staining to it with use. The gun has a wood ram rod with brass end cap. The gun’s cocking and firing action works crisply. The price for this shotgun worthy of further research regarding the maker includes UK delivery. NB As an muzzle loading antique shotgun no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 19662
