A mahogany powder magazine by premier London gunsmiths John Manton and Son. The box dates to circa 1815 when Thomas Manton joined his father in the family business, at the famous Dover Street address. The box is in fine sleepy condition, retaining its original pale green baize, crisp trade label, and a lovely rich color to the flame mahogany, with the correct working lock and key. Exquisitely made with characteristic ultra fine ebony dovetail wedges and trademark Manton tear drop escutcheon. The brass drop handle is classic Chippendale and it has been speculated that the master cabinet maker, whose workshops were a few streets from Manton, may have made his cases. Certainly guns and accessories with Manton's reputation for quality, could only be complimented by the very best in cases and his high society customers would expect no less. £1250 plus post £10

An arsenal shortened Short Sea Service, fully martially marked and absolutly correct and genuine. Super strong springs and excellent sparking . Difficult to better £1450 plus next day post £10.
