Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 3043. A rare Cased Colt model 1849 pocket .31 percussion revolver with much original finish. Circa 1850. The 3.5 inch barrel marked {ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY}. The stage coach cylinder scene is clearly visible on this example. Cylinder scenes during this period were normal, especially for Colt. Colt not only did this for their visual appeal but it made it difficult for others to copy his revolvers. The scene on the 1849 Pocket model is that of a stagecoach robbery depicting a stagecoach drawn by four horses with a woman framed in the doorway of the side of the coach. The driver is standing alongside the coach wielding his pistol against multiple assailants, which several of them lay on the ground, one trying to control the horses, a couple are running away and one in the process of falling after being shot. All matching serial numbers.(The serial number indicates the year of manufacture as 1850). Complete in a wooden case (11 X 6 inches) with a brass escutcheon to the lid and blue baize lining. The inside of the case lid has an Colt paper label with its loading and cleaning instructions. Case contains cleaning rod, L-shaped nipple wrench, copper powder flask, bullet mold and a Colts cap tin. Nice crisp action. In excellent condition retaining much of it's original finish and a clear cylinder scene. Ref 3043. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
