We cannot determine the origin of this sword, it has features of both British & continental swords C1800. It has a single edged, fullered, curved, 31 ½” blade. The blade is blued and has gilt etched foliate & martial arms for 8” from the hilt which has original leather hilt washer. The blade has staining consistent with age. There are no visible maker or date marks. Its brass hilt has a Lion’s head pommel and mane back strap. The cross guard has large lozenge shaped langets on both sides, One langet has c cast helmeted face mask, the other a stylised foliate or star design. The front of the knuckle guard has a cast helmet and arms device. The grooved leather bound wood grip has brass wire binding. The sword is complete with its original brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 brass hanging rings. The lower section of the scabbard above the elongated chape has had a repair at some point in its life. The price for this sword worthy of further research includes UK delivery. Sn 19962
