Later due to shortages of weapons the carbines saw service in WW2. These weapons were issued to mounted troops, Cavalry and the French Foreign Legion. The weapon was designed by Émile Berthier, a mechanical engineer in La Compagnie Bône-Guelma (one of the five subsidiary companies of the Algerian Railway System). This is an excellent original example. It has the correct folded over bolt lever to prevent it being caught when used by the Cavalry. The carbine has all original wood in excellent condition with just one small repair which can be seen in image 3. The breech is marked 'Châtellerault Mle 1892'. The weapon has a steel butt plate, block and blade foresight, adjustable rear sight, sling anchor in stock and sling ring. The weapon has inspection marks and calibre detail ‘9mm Lebel’. The carbine is serial number 14786 and has other un-matching numbers. Deactivated to UK specification in 2014 the carbine cocks and dry fires. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery**We can arrange for this firearm to be brought up to the latest UK/EU specification for UK customers (customers can purchase on our lay-away scheme. The weapon will then be brought up to the EU specification and the relevant certificate obtained prior to the transfer of ownership and delivery)**Sn 20067:39
