The Model 1885 Single Shot rifle was John M. Browning’s first design and patent, and it was first single shot to be built by Winchester. The patent for the Model 1885 rifle was what brought John M. Browning and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company together for beginning of their eventual 19-year association. The falling-block Model 1885 was built with one of the strongest actions known at that time. This Winchester Model 1885 rifle has all original metal and wood work. It has a 26” round steel barrel. The top of the barrel is crisply signed with Winchester manufacturer detail (illustrated). The barrel has calibre detail ‘.22WCF’. The action tang is numbered ‘91138’ which dates its manufacture to 1902. It has a steel butt plate. The weapon has a blade fore sight & adjustable ladder rear sight.
