Description

A good 19thc colonial British period dha sword from around 1880 - 1920, likely a bring back from colonial brit times in Burma or the last war Britain had with the Burmese, it is in good overall condition for 19thc with no chips of other damage to blade or hilt damage and is still very sharp.

The blade quite thick and front heavy, the type known as grinning tip - grinning dha in Burma because its concave tip looks like a grinning human mouth, it has one large hollow forged central fuller for strength and which makes the blade lighter, it is decorated on both sides with scrolling foliate silver koftgari inlay patterns and is decorated the same.

The spine is thick at the hilt end and has silver koftgari inlay designs in zig zag with a silver inlay line each side, it thins rapidly to a top false edge which caries on distally tapering to its tip.

The hilt is mounted in thick nickel silver alloy white metal, there are many different colour alloys used on these type dha, some copper pink some yellow alloy and some white alloy like nickel, this one is more like nickel just to be clear and is not silver.

The grip is wood with a covering of ray skin that is pinned on the underside with brass pin nails in traditional fashion for Mandalay - Rangoon and Burma proper region dha's from Brit colonial Burma period.

The scabbard is made of teak and is in 2 parts as traditional which are held together with thin black rattan braded rings, it also retains its original carrying cord.
