The Country Store

“We began the business in 1986 and initially traded from our home in Sawston under the name of Sawston Farm Feeds. It originally had two parts, supplying Pet Feeds to the general public and Grain Merchanting for farmers. At that time we delivered all orders for the pet feeds to customer’s homes. On the 1st April 1992 the business moved to its current site, opening as a shop, allowing customers to collect their orders rather than having them delivered. In 1993 the Shooting and Fishing departments were bought by us from the Thornton family and added to the store, making a one-stop shop for the country dweller. As the retail trade grew and became the main part of the business, the grain merchanting reduced and in 2000 the company name was changed to the present one of The Country Store.”

David Beer came back to the store in 2007 after leaving us for 3 years to try another trade. He is now a partner in the business and his excellent knowledge of the sport of shooting and other country pursuits is put to good use as Manager of the Gun Room.

Having closed the fishing department in 2012, we expanded the gun room to how it is now. Over the last 4 years the gun room has continued on the right path and as a result, has been expanded once again. The work was completed at the end of April 2016.
