Here we have an infantry hanger used by various German infantry units in the mid to late 18th century German professional armies as well as German born soldiers in various armies like the British and Dutch forces.
These infantry hangers are very similar to the ones made for British armies with some minor differences since these were made in the same factories.
The hanger has a curved blade and a heart shaped boatshell guard that has interestingly been cut in half to hang against the coat in a more comfortable fashion, leaving the protection on the outer hand but compromising over the thumb.
This hanger has had a thumb ring removed, another common feature modified in the field.
This one still bears its unit and designation markings on the knucklebow and the guard.
The scabbard is original but it has had some new leather added to fix a break around the middle.
~ Dimensions ~
The sword is 29 inches.
The blade is 22 inches
The sword weighs 915g.
~ Condition ~
The sword is in excellent condition for its age, most interestingly retaining its scabbard (albeit with the repair). The blade has some wear from age and the brass has some cosmetic wear from use.
~Postage ~
UK postage is £20 or it can be inspected in our shop.
