Description

DEACTIVATED INERT. This is a WW2 British unfired 15mm BESA machine gun drill round used in 15mm tank machine gun. The BESA round was approved for service in June 1940 and was fitted to the Light Tank Mk VIC and the Humber Armoured Car Marks I – III. The bullet is boat tailed with a gilding metal envelope with a lead/antimony tip filler and hard steel core. It has two narrow driving bands formed in the envelope. Bullet weight was 1160 grains and the propellant charge was 370 grains of nitro-cellulose powder. The gun was developed from the Czechoslovak ZB vz 60 air-cooled machine gun which was fed by 25-round belts. This drill round consists of a nickel plated brass cartridge case with three, quarter inch diameter holes drilled diagonally through the case signifying a drill round. The primer annulus also retains its red paint signifying a drill round. The round is headatamped K40 (Kynoch 1940) 15MM WZ (armour piercing with smokeless powder). The round has a crimped in copper jacketed bullet which has two driving bands, the top one which is visible at the case mouth. The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess inert rounds in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 1801
