Create my profile now!These are original, 1855 Prussian Infantry Pioneer’s short swords with original scabbards (see page 196 of World Swords 1400-1945 By Withers). They each have 1 ¾” broad (at their widest), 19” long, heavy single edged blade and measure 24 ¾” overall. They have rugged brass handles deeply grooved for grip with ball pommels and the straight cross guards with rolled ends. Both blades have Imperial inspection marks on one side and manufacturer marks ‘PDL’ within oval cartouche on the reverse which are the marks of P.D. Luneschloss Solingen. The cross guard of one sidearm is crisply Regiment marked ’12.A.F.29’ to the Fusartillerie (Foot Artillery) Regiment Nr 12, 29th Battery (see page 22 of German Small Arms Markings by Gortz & Bryans). The scabbards are leather with brass locket and chape. The leather of each scabbard has wear to be expected but all leather and stitching are intact. The brass mounts have light knocks to be expected. The throat mount of the Regiment marked sidearm has matching Regiment mark ’12.A.F.29’.
