Create my profile now!This is a superb original C1475 Muromachi Period Japanese Tanto. The blade is 7 1/4" long in good polish and has a straight hamon. The tang is signed KOTOU UDA KUNIMUNE and is from the mid Muromachi period c1475. The overall length of the shira saya is 13". The length of the koshirae is 21" but it will only take this blade. The fittings are in keeping with the age of the blade. Iron tsuba and fuchi and what appears to be a shakudo kashira. It has a beautiful pair of menuki which are either hornets or bees. The small Kozuka Knife fits the scabbard perfectly and is ornately decorated with a Gilt Peacock. The Tanto is complete with a traditional wood blade storage scabbard with handle that fits the blade perfectly and which has kept this blade in superb condition. A wooden blade accompanies the piece and fits neatly into the Tanto handle keeping the hilt fittings in their correct place whenever the Tanto blade is stored in the wooden scabbard.
