Create my profile now!This is an excellent 1856 Pattern British Pioneers Saw Back Short Sword Sidearm (see page 173 of Robson's Swords of the British Army). It has a broad 22 ½” long blade with deeply cut sawback (27 ¾” overall). The blade has staining consistent with age and service use. The spine of the blade has crisp maker Mark ‘R (Robert) Mole (Birmingham)’ and inspection mark. One side of the blade has British WD with arrow mark and other ordnance inspection marks. It has the correct heavy ribbed Brass handle with full knuckle bow, slotted for lanyard. The top of the rolled cross guard is crisply Regiment marked ‘V3. N.F 8’ To The 3rd Volunteer Northumberland Fusiliers Weapon Number 8’ & dated ’12 (December) 1889’. The sidearm is complete with original leather scabbard with brass mounts. The throat mount has matching maker mark ‘Mole’, date ‘9 (September) 1895’ and is Regiment marked ‘V.4.SK.7’ to the 4th Volunteer Suffolk Regiment weapon number 7. The leather & stitching of the scabbard are intact. The leather has just surface scuffs consistent with age and service use. The price includes UK delivery. ED 2671
