It is commonly referred to as the Model 1858 due to its patent markings "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 March 17 1863 E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. NEW MODEL" The Remington revolver was a secondary, supplemental issue firearm for the Union Army until the Colt factory fire of 1864 (see page 106 of Colt Firearms by Serven). Due to the fire Colt 1860 Army Revolvers were not available for some time, subsequently large numbers of the Remington revolver were ordered by the U.S. Government. It was favoured for its durability. Pocket versions were produced and 1858 Pattern pistols saw use in the American West, both in its original percussion configuration and as a Remington Factory metallic cartridge conversion. This is an excellent original Model 1858 Army New Model Pocket Revolver. The underside of the barrel is stamped with number ‘2021’. The pistol’s cylinder can be removed for speed loading. The pistol has a 4 ½” octagonal stepped barrel and measures 9 ½” overall. The barrel's bore is near mint clean and bright with crisp rifling. The barrel is crisply stamped with correct manufacturer and 1858 Patent detail (illustrated). It has a steel frame, captive lever ramrod, brass blade fore sight and brass trigger guard. It's Walnut grips are undamaged. The pistol cocks and dry fires crisply. The price includes UK delivery. NB as an antique percussion revolver no licence is required to own this pistol in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. A 1117
