Here we have a unique item from the First World War that would have been used to scare the German soldiers in their trenches.
Fired from a modified Lee Enfield Rifle, it would fly through the air at great speeds and make an eerie sound as it flew. This would have kept the Germans on their toes at all times.
The Germans used a similar technique in the Second World War with their Stukas. There are no other markings on the grenade apart from the British crow’s foot stamp. You can also see the screw mechanism on the bottom and how it would have been inserted into the rifle.
~ Condition ~
Please refer to the images for the condition. The piece is complete apart from its road and still makes a siren-like sound.
~ Dimensions ~
The grenade is 18 cm (7.25 inches) in total length.
