A superb cavalry sword of the Napoleonic period. This pattern sword was originally made for the tall and fierce Cuirassiers of Napoleon's Grand Armee and is the same pattern cavalry sword carried during the battle of Waterloo in June of 1815. Complete in its original steel scabbard with two hanging rings. A very scarce sword and unusual for this pattern sword to still retain its original leather grip covering. Blade length 37 inches. Overall length in scabbard 46 inches. Overall in good condition. Ref 3598. The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 between the French Army led by Napoleon Bonaparte and a coalition led by the Duke of Wellington for Great Britain, & Marshal Blücher of Germany. The decisive battle of its age, it concluded the Napoleonic wars that had raged for 23 years, it ended all French attempts to dominate Europe, and destroyed Napoleon's imperial power forever.
