Create my profile now!It is not capable of firing as the percussion cap hammer has no spring tension so presumably something is broken or missing inside the lock.
It is missing the ramrod and a mounting sleeve for the ramrod has gone from the rib on the underside of the barrel. Missing the odd wood screw too! A solid brass butt-plate showing lots of history!
The wood stock is very solid but chequering is well worn but still easily visible.
The few inches of internal bore I can feel and see seem in good condition but I wouldn't think it safe to fire and the cap nipple is corroded.
I have tried some cold blue on the barrel, without much success. The bluing, if there was some, has long gone.
Having been gifted to me, when the firearms officer saw it it was declared a viable shotgun and was added to my certificate. Considered a 12 bore but no serial number or make. I have not removed the metalwork from the stock so there may be a number, maker or proof marks. No idea.
I repeat, it's not viable as there is no working spring for the hammer and I have no idea whether it would be safe to fire. I doubt it. Sadly it has been declared viable so you will need a current shotgun certificate, pick up only. Location central East Sussex.
