Description

Victorian George Beardshaw Sheffield ‘Texas Bowie’ Knife With Stag Antler Hilt & Scabbard. Sn 19054 - 19054

George Beardshaw was a Sheffield cutler based in Spitalfield Place & Mardcus Street from C1845 to 1881 when his son also George entered the business and the Company became Beardshaw & son. George Senior died in 1884 and his son continued the business until his own death in 1914 aged 56 yrs (see page 70 of Tweedale’s Directory of Sheffield Cutlers 2nd Edition). This is an excellent Victorian era bowie by George Beardshaw. The 12” long, bowie has a solid curved stag antler hilt with steel pommel cap. It has a brass finger guard and 6 ¾” single edged, steel bowie blade with scalloped back edge. On one side the blade is marked by the maker ‘G. Beardshaw Cast Steel’ below Crown VR (Victoria Regina). The reverse has banner with ‘Texas Bowie’. The blade has areas of staining consistent with age. Its original open top leather scabbard has a rear belt loop. All leather & stitching of the scabbard are intact. The price includes UK delivery. Sn 19054
