Description

HW 97 Silverline (nickel plated action) .177 calibre, serial number 2249065. Beech stock. These are sold new with a plastic stock for about £500. I do not like the shot cycle with a plastic stock, so this one has a late style Weihrauch sportster beech stock fitted instead of the plastic one. I have not seen another nickel-plated action in a wooden stock. The blueing, what little there is, is in excellent condition. The nickel plating is unmarked. The woodwork is in excellent condition. See the attached pictures to verify the condition of the gun. The internal condition is excellent. The barrel bore has been lightly polished. The action internals are lubricated with Rocol moly paste.

I have modified the internals of the moderator, to make the gun quieter, I have replaced the original spring with a Tin Bum Premium spring with custom fitted Tin Bum top and bottom guides. I have recently changed the breech seal on it, after I found the original breech seal to be leaking, I was prompted to test the breach seal after I started missing what I was aiming at. It is now back to its usual high standard.

It is presently shooting at 11 ft.pds., using RWS 8.4 grn pellets, (I use these to check muzzle velocity because they are cheaper than JSB or Air Arms pellets). It seems to prefer JSB Exact Express pellets.

I have 4 springers, this HW 97, a second standard blued finish HW97, a TX 200 rifle (not carbine) and a Walther LGU. I am selling them all as I have arthritis in my left hand so cocking them is now quite painful. I hope to replace them with a Steyr PCP. I can now only shoot my existing HW PCP. All my springers shoot equally accurately. I have done work on them all. I would not let anyone else work on my guns, then if I miss, it is my fault….

How well does it shoot?

This HW97 has shot consistent 3 shot groups covered by a half inch diameter circle at 50 yards. It has consistently shot yogurt pots measuring 95mm by 43mm at 100 yards. All using JSB Express pellets. All the above were shot in a disused railway tunnel, so there was no wind…I now shake more and can see less. These are my only excuses for missing….it is certainly not the gun's fault. The price may seem a bit high, but you are buying a gun that is better than "New out of the box" as it has had all the usual HW97 niggles sorted out. It also has a wooden stock, that is far more attractive that the plastic alternative (and about £40 dearer).

If you decide to buy, you can collect from Anglesey, North Wales, (and try it in the loft, before you buy it), or I can post it at your cost.
