Create my profile now! This is a very nice Ladies Muff pistol made in London C1830. It is a tiny 4 ¼” overall with a 1 ¼” screw off steel barrel and folding concealed trigger (a tool is required to remove the barrel, we do not have the tool). The barrel’s smooth bore is clean. It has impressed black powder proofs on the underside of the action and barrel. The steel action has tooled foliate engraving. One side has a maker’s name ‘W. Richards’ (most likely William P Richards recorded at 20 Market Row Gt Portland Street, London 1823-24 then 13 St John Street Oxford Street 1826-29 & 11 John Street 1830 see page 196 of Brown’s book British gunmakers Vol.1). The reverse has ‘London’ (illustrated). It has a Dolphin hammer. The original chequered panel walnut grip is undamaged. The stock has an inlaid silver escutcheon with Stag’s head family crest. The action has a sliding safety bolt. The pistol cocks and dry fires as it should. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as a part of a collection or display. Sn 21393:30
