Description

This is a rare Italian leather and canvas bayonet frog for the Model 1870 sword bayonet. The leather part of the frog is a mid-tan in colour and is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. The stitching is complete and in good order. The leather frog is attached to a buff webbing strap by stitching and forms a belt loop. The frog measures 10 inches in length. At the rear of the frog is marked in old worn ink REGALBUTO SICILY 1943. The battle of Regalbuto was part of Operation Hardgate and began on the 29th of July. This was a pincer manoeuvre to capture Adrano and was in full swing on August 1, 1943. On one pincer was the 1st Canadian Division at Regalbuto and the other was the 78th Division, supplemented with the 3rd Canadian Brigade. The Germans, particularly the Panzer-Division Hermann Göring, were told to hold the line, but had been bombed continually by the RCAF flying out of Tunisia. Once again, the Panzer-Division Hermann Göring were matched against the Canadians in Regalbuto. Regalbuto was captured on August 2, 1943. See item 343, Carter, Bayonet Belt Frogs Part II.The price for this bayonet frog with its history includes UK delivery. (Belts Box). L 263
