In 1896 the Boers ordered 70,000 Mauser rifles and carbines from Ludwig Loewe, later known as Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionfabriken (DWM), about 55,000 of which were delivered.
We don't know if this is one of them, but it could be and, in any case, is a very rare and well preserved example made by Lowee in Berlin.
The rifle is serial numbered A5842 which is matched on all its components.
The piece comes with its original leather sling, cocks and dry fires.
~ Condition ~
The metalwork is somehow pitted, but it is to be expected for its age.
