This is an excellent English pepperbox bar hammer revolver made circa 1840 in its associated fitted case with accessories. The action, grip frame, butt & barrel cluster are German silver and have panels of foliate engraved decoration. The steel trigger guard also has engraved foliate decoration and it has a steel trigger. The revolver measures 7 ¾” overall and the barrel cluster is 2 ¾” length. The steel bar hammer has engraved with a foliate design. The barrel cluster has English black powder proofs. There are no external maker marks. The revolver has an undamaged smooth Walnut grip. The barrel’s smooth bores have just light staining consistent with age. It's firing action works crisply. The pistol comes with its associated fitted wood case. The inside of the lid has a James Woodward & Sons London trade label. The top of the lid has a void brass escutcheonThe case with hinged lid has a lock (key absent). The inside of the case is fitted and lined with felt to hold the pistol and its accessories which consist of copper and brass powder flask. The flask falls into the plain category (see pages 271 to 275 of the powder flask book by Riling and page 274 item 132 where a Dixons flask similar to ours with twin base receptacles is illustrated). It’s plain copper body has just a few light dents consistent with field use only visible on close inspection. The screw top brass charger has unmarked measurement adjustment and spring lever which is fully functioning with a strong action. The flask has no maker marks. The brass base has 2 receptacles for balls, patches & or percussion Caps. The receptacles have 2 sliding brass covers which have foliate decoration, a brass cleaning rod, a steel tool, a steel bullet mould, a wooden box with removable lid & a white metal oil tin with screw top lid that has an integral oil applicator tool. The price includes UK delivery. NB As an antique percussion pistol no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 21815
