The Carcano M1891 rifle gave excellent service throughout the First Word War where Italy participated on the Allied side, fighting mainly against Austria. The reliability of the weapon convinced Fascist Italy to re commence manufacturing the Infantry rifle during WW2. The rifle was designated the Carcano M1891/41 Rifle. Aside from a more compact rear sight, standard non-progressive rifling, and a barrel slightly shorter than the older infantry rifle, the 1941 adaptation was little changed from the WW1 era weapon. The M1891/41 rifle was manufactured from 1941 to 1945. This is an excellent original example of the M1891/41 Rifle. Its wood stock & metalwork are all original. It is equipped with original cleaning rod, sling bars & sling swivels, bayonet lug, adjustable rear sight, fixed block & blade foresight and steel butt plate. The breech is stamped with Crown Cartouche. The barrel has serial number BA4092 which is repeated on the wood and has 6.5 calibre detail together with inspection marks. The rifle has other un-matching numbers. Deactivated to UK specification in 2015 the rifle cocks and dry fires. The rifle comes with an original Carcano knife bayonet which fits the rifle correctly. The bayonet's slab wood grips are undamaged and it has steel cross guard with muzzle ring. The 11 ½” fullered single edged blade has staining consistent with age. The bayonet has its original leather scabbard with brass mounts. The scabbard is fitted with original leather frog with single belt loop. All leather and stitching of the scabbard & frog are intact.
