Description

The Lee Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine-fed repeating rifle that served as the main firearm of the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century, and was the standard service rifle of the British Armed Forces from its official adoption in 1895 until 1957. The Lee Enfield was the standard issue weapon to rifle companies of the British Army, colonial armies (such as India and parts of Africa), and other Commonwealth nations in both the First and Second World Wars (such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada). The Lee Enfield takes its name from the designer of the rifle's bolt system James Paris Lee and the location where its rifling design was created the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield. This example has No4 MkI (F) ‘Fazakarley’ (ROF Fazakerley was the Royal Ordnance Factory rifle manufacturing plant in Fazakerley, Liverpool.

Opened in 1941 & Closed in 1960) FTR (Factory Through Repair) /48 PA22982. Deactivated to UK specification in 1998 the rifle’s bolt and trigger move. The magazine is stamped ‘DP’ and the rear of the stock has a hand painted ‘25’. The bolt is stamped ‘ 29L2275 with an inspection stamp. The sling is date stamped ‘1943’ along with a broad arrow and makers mark. The wooden stock is stamped 56L 5786 to the fore. The wood is showing a number of minor age related marks which adds to its appeal. The metal work retains most of its black paint and showing signs of use in areas. The No9 bayonet is stamped ‘3906636’ to one side of the body and ‘A39’ to the other. The price includes an early UK deactivation certificate and UK delivery. 21393:3.
