Description

INERT DEACTIVATED. This is a Dutch 12 cm Number 10 ships main armament gun cartridge case that was designed by Bofors of Sweden and fitted to cruisers and destroyers. HNLMS Utrecht was in service from 1957 to 1980 and was fitted with the 12cm number 10 gun as its main armament. The gun used fixed rounds of ammunition to provided the main armament to the ship and fired high explosive and armour piercing ammunition. There is a brass plaque riveted to the side of the cartridge which is stamped HNLMS (His/Her Netherlands Majesty's Ship) UTRECHT FOST 1972 which was a Dutch naval exercise in that year. The cartridge case is headstamped 12CM NO10 G71 56 and 60 degrees in a symbol. The cartridge case is fitted percussion primer which is stamped E No 1 01 55. The ship was sold out of service in 1980 to the Peruvian navy and named Castella. The ship was decommissioned by them in in 1990.
